Family polls: ask the family and decide together
Start a poll from a new post on the family wall, or from a chat in the Kunbaa app. Everyone who can see that post, or everyone in that chat, can vote, and the poll closes at the time you chose or when you close it. Polls are free on every plan, and Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra add smart polls that Kunbaa AI helps you write.
1. Start a new post, or open a chat
A poll lives where the question comes up. For the whole family, or the part of it that should see it, start a new post on the family wall: in the Kunbaa app or on kunbaa.com. For the people in one chat, open that chat in the Kunbaa app.
2. Tap Poll and write your question
In a new post, tap Poll (Start a poll on kunbaa.com). In a chat, tap the + in the message box, then Poll. Type your question, or start from a ready-made one: Pick a date, Who brings what, Where next? or What’s for dinner.
3. Add the choices
Choose Words or Dates and times, then add between two and six choices. Two switches sit under the choices:
- More than one answer, when people may pick several.
- Show who voted for what, for a question like who is coming to lunch. It is off unless you turn it on.
On a dates poll, each choice shows the time in each of the family’s homes, so a time that suits Grandma is not the middle of the night for a cousin abroad. For a photo vote, post two or more photos first; on your own post in the app, tap the chart button to start a vote on which photo the family likes best.
4. Choose when it closes, then post it
Pick when it closes: Saturday 8 pm, In 2 days, In a week, or I’ll close it. A poll can stay open for up to 30 days. Then post it, or send it in the chat. Relatives who can see it get a notification that a vote has started.
Who sees it and who votes
A poll on the wall follows its post: everyone who can see the post can see the poll and vote, and nobody else. See choosing who sees a post. A poll in a chat is for the people in that chat.
Each person votes with one tap and can change their vote until the poll closes. The results show once you have voted. Votes are private by default, and the poll is marked Private: the family sees how many chose each answer, never who chose what. If the person who started it turned on names, the poll is marked Names shown before anyone votes.
Reminders and closing
On a poll you started on the wall, you can see who you are waiting on and tap Remind them. Chat polls have no reminder. The person who started a poll can close it at any time from the poll’s menu, and a family admin can close a poll on the wall. The closing time can be changed only until the first vote. When very few people voted, a closed poll shares no result, so nobody can work out who chose what.
Polls are free on every plan. A free family can start a limited number of new wall polls each month, and Kunbaa tells you before you start one if you have reached it. Chat polls never count, and Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra have no limit.
A family vote on an event, such as which date suits everyone for a reunion, comes with Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra; every guest can vote. More on that in events and to-dos.
Smart polls
With Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra, the poll composer has a Smart poll button. Write one line about what you want to decide, then choose Write my poll for a ready question and choices, or Find a time for times that suit every home. On a poll you started, Kunbaa AI can also write a kind reminder for the relatives who have not voted, and turn the result into a plan.
Kunbaa AI only drafts. You read the poll, change anything and post it yourself, and a reminder or a plan is made only after you confirm it. Smart polls need Kunbaa AI switched on in your settings. See Kunbaa AI for what it can see.
Questions families ask
Are family polls free?
Yes, on every plan, and voting is always free. A free family can start a limited number of new wall polls each month; chat polls never count, and Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra have no limit.
Who can see and vote in a poll?
Everyone who can already see the post the poll is on, or everyone in the chat it was sent to. A poll is shared only with them, never posted anywhere public.
Can the family see what I voted for?
Not unless the person who started the poll turned on Show who voted for what, and then the poll is marked Names shown before you vote. Otherwise it is marked Private: everyone sees how many voted for each choice, never who chose what.
Can I change my vote?
Yes, until the poll closes, and Remove my vote in the poll's menu takes it back. The results show once you have voted, so the first answers do not steer the rest.
How do I close a poll?
Tap the poll's menu, or press and hold the poll in the app, then Close the poll (Close the poll now on kunbaa.com). The person who started a poll can close it at any time, and a family admin can close a poll on the wall. If you chose a closing time, it closes by itself then.
Why does a closed poll show no result?
When very few people voted, the result is not shared, so nobody can work out who chose what. The poll says Too few votes to share a result.
Can I remind people who have not voted?
Yes, on a poll you started on the wall. The poll shows who you are waiting on, with Remind them to send them a reminder. Chat polls have no reminder.
What are smart polls?
With Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra, Kunbaa AI can write a poll from one line, find times that suit every home, write a kind reminder, and turn the result into a plan. It only drafts: nothing is posted or created until you check it and confirm. Kunbaa AI must be switched on in your settings.
