Every family starts with two. Then everyone they love arrives, and a tree grows to hold them all.
One
Steady and sensible, then joins the fun. Wants everybody safe, fed and on time.
Look out for The head count: One counts the family at every outing and always gets one too many.
Two
Curious and playful, always leaning in. Wants fun, and wants it now.
Look out for “Easy.” Two says it just before every small disaster.
Everyone
The whole wide family in one: loud, loving and a little too much. Always ends up sharing.
Look out for “Me, me, me,” and three of everything. Then a very big ACHOO.
Their friends in the meadow
Each story gives centre stage to a different friend. Every one of them has a habit the children soon spot.
Gran
Warm, giggly and quietly the best at every game. Pockets full of sweets.
Wins every game without seeming to try. Nobody knows how.
Grandpa
Gentle and dozy, and a showman when it counts.
Looks for his glasses while wearing them, on his cap.
Pip
A cheeky little bird with big plans who loves anything shiny.
Can’t fly yet, but every flap goes a little higher.
Biscuit
A bouncy, loyal puppy who is always up to something.
The swap: Biscuit trades things for toys behind everyone’s back. The child at home sees it first.
Shelly
A mint-green snail: slow, kind and always on her way.
Sets off at the start and arrives at the very end.
Mama Duck and the ducklings
Mama Duck leads the line and collects any stray who needs a place in it.
The ducklings are always in a line, and the third one always wanders.
Little Light
The baby, a glow that gets brighter when they are happy.
Sleeps through any noise, wakes at the smallest whisper, and sneezes a tiny “choo” just like Everyone.
