Kunbaa AI: what it does and who has it
Kunbaa AI is the AI inside Kunbaa, made for one family at a time. On Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra you can chat with it about your family, hear its answers read aloud and ask it to help plan an event, working only from what your own account can already see. It also writes family digests, short recaps of the updates you missed, free on every plan once you switch it on.
What it does
- Chat about your family. Ask things like “when is Grandma’s birthday?” or “help me plan Sunday lunch”, in the Kunbaa app or on kunbaa.com. Your conversations are kept so you can open one later and carry on.
- Hear its answers. Ask for a written answer to be read aloud.
- Plan an event with you. Ask on an event’s page and it suggests the jobs to do; you keep, edit or drop each one. On Kunbaa Ultra it works on a stronger model, with full event plans: budget, timeline, shopping list and tasks.
- A card on calls. During a call in the app, open a card about the relative you are talking to and type a question about them. Kunbaa AI never listens to the call.
- Family digests. Short recaps of the family updates you missed, as notifications and in a weekly email.
Who has it
Chatting with Kunbaa AI, hearing its answers and planning with it come with Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra. One person pays, and everyone the plan covers can ask. Family digests are free on every plan. See plans, storage and billing for what each plan includes.
What it can see
Only what your own account can already see. To answer, Kunbaa sends the family details the question needs to OpenAI, its AI provider: names, relationships, birthdays and other family-tree details, events and tasks, and, when you ask about them, posts, memories and recent messages from chats you are in. It never sends anything created by a relative who has not allowed Kunbaa AI, and photos, videos and live locations are never sent.
You choose whether it is on
Kunbaa asks you first, with two equal answers: Allow and Not now. Until you allow it, Kunbaa AI does not answer you, and nothing you create is sent to it for anyone else. You can switch it off at any time: the Kunbaa AI switch is in Settings in the app, and under Profile, then Preferences, on kunbaa.com.
Your family’s data never trains AI
The Privacy Policy says it plainly: “We never use your content to train AI models, and our AI provider is not allowed to either.” OpenAI uses what Kunbaa sends only to answer you and to run a safety check, and is asked not to keep it; under its terms it may keep it for up to 30 days to check for abuse, or longer where the law requires it. Safety checks on every answer
Every question and every answer goes through the same checks: a fixed safety instruction above everything a member wrote, an automated check of what goes in and what comes out, and no answer at all if the check cannot run. There is no opt-out. Kunbaa AI can make mistakes, so check what it says before you rely on it.

Is Kunbaa AI free?

What can Kunbaa AI see?
Only what your own account can already see, and never anything created by a relative who has not allowed Kunbaa AI. To answer, it uses the family details the question needs: names, relationships, birthdays and other family-tree details, events and tasks, and, when you ask about them, posts, memories and recent messages from chats you are in. Photos, videos and live locations are never sent to it.
Is my family's data used to train AI?
No. As the Privacy Policy says: "We never use your content to train AI models, and our AI provider is not allowed to either." Kunbaa's AI provider is OpenAI. It uses the text only to answer you and to run a safety check, and may keep it for up to 30 days to check for abuse, or longer where the law requires it.
How do I turn Kunbaa AI off?
Switch off Kunbaa AI in Settings in the app, or under Profile, then Preferences, on kunbaa.com. You can switch it back on whenever you like.
If I say no, can relatives still ask Kunbaa AI about me?
Nothing you create in Kunbaa, such as your posts, comments, messages, events or the details you add to the tree, is sent to Kunbaa AI, even when a relative uses it, and nobody gets a call card about you. Names and relationships on the family tree, yours included, and what other relatives wrote about you can still come up when a relative asks about the family.
Does Kunbaa AI listen to my calls?
No. Kunbaa AI never listens to, records or transcribes a call. On Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra, during a call in the app, you can open a card about the relative you are talking to and type a question about them; it answers from that card. A card appears only when that relative has allowed Kunbaa AI too.
Who can see my conversations with Kunbaa AI?
Only you; your relatives cannot. Each message is kept for 30 days and then deleted, unless you choose Keep on that conversation. You can delete any conversation, or all of them, at any time.
Can Kunbaa AI make mistakes?
Yes. Check what it says before you rely on it, especially dates and plans. Every question and answer goes through Kunbaa's safety checks, and if a check cannot run, you get no answer rather than an unchecked one.
