Diwali · Sunday 8 November 2026

Diwali at home, with the cousins in Sydney and Toronto in it too.

The short answer

Kunbaa is an invite-only family space where you plan Diwali with relatives in other cities and countries: who hosts, the puja time, who brings what, and when to call the family far away, in one plan everyone can see. On the day, everyone adds their photos to the same album. Everyone in the family joins free.

Dates from Drik Panchang for New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, New Delhi, Melbourne and Auckland, checked 1 October 2026.

Across time zones

One evening can't hold everyone

Diwali evening at 7 pm in Chicago is Monday lunchtime in Sydney and Monday dawn in Pune. Nobody's evening matches, so the plan can't live in one call.

On Kunbaa the plan is there when each branch wakes up: the host, the puja time, the list of who brings what, and the time of the call that suits the most people.

The plan

A plan the whole family can see

Pick Diwali and the plan starts with Diwali's own checklist: the host and puja time, sweets and dinner, diyas, rangoli colours and puja items, the call with family far away, and a reminder for everyone to add their photos. Change anything; it's your family's plan.

Diwali's date moves with the lunar calendar and can differ by a day between regions, so the family picks the day it keeps.

The album

Everyone's photos, one album

Your mother's rangoli in New Jersey, your brother's first diya in his new flat, Nani's hands rolling ladoos. On the day, everyone adds their photos to the event's album, and next year's Diwali starts from this year's.

Only the relatives you invite can see them. Kunbaa is invite-only, has no ads, and sells nobody's data.

Every generation

Everyone in it, including the grandparents

Everyone in the family joins free, wherever they live, and each relative has their own place on the family tree. Grandparents can follow the plan and the album on kunbaa.com in a browser.

Accounts are for adults; children are in the photos and on the tree, added by their parents.

How it works

  1. 1

    Pick Diwali

The plan starts with Diwali's own checklist, and your family picks the day it keeps.
  2. 2

    Invite the family

Each relative gets their place on the tree and sees the plan.
  3. 3

    Share out the jobs

Everyone ticks off what they're bringing; reminders go to whoever has the job.
  4. 4

Add your photos on the day

From every home, into one album that the invited family can open.

When is Diwali in 2026?

Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) is on Sunday 8 November 2026 in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India. Dhanteras is Friday 6 November. Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj fall a day earlier in the US and Canada (9 and 10 November) than in India, Australia and New Zealand (10 and 11 November). Your temple's calendar decides; Kunbaa lets your family pick its own day. Dates from Drik Panchang for New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, New Delhi, Melbourne and Auckland, checked 1 October 2026.

How do we plan Diwali with family in different countries?

Put the plan where everyone can see it, whatever time they wake up: the host, the puja time, who brings what, and a call time that suits the most people. Then ask everyone to add their photos to one album on the day.

How is this different from our family WhatsApp group?

Keep the group for talking. Kunbaa keeps the plan, the photos and the family tree together, so the photos stay with the people in them and next Diwali starts from this one.

Can relatives in India or anywhere else join?

Yes. Everyone in the family joins free, wherever they live, and sees only what is shared with them.

Who can see our Diwali photos?

Only the relatives you invite. Kunbaa is invite-only, has no ads and sells nobody's data. See exactly how private Kunbaa is.

We keep Bandi Chhor Divas, Deepavali or Jain Diwali. Does this work for us?

Yes. The plan is your family's own: name it, pick the day you keep and invite who you like.

Does it cost anything?

Starting a family, the tree, events and the album are free, and everyone in the family joins free. Kunbaa Plus is an optional paid plan for keeping more of the family archive. See pricing.

Is there an app?

Yes, on iPhone and Android, and everything also works on kunbaa.com.

This Diwali, put everyone in the picture.

Everyone in the family joins free.
