Photos, videos and storage: what fits

Each family shares one archive, with 5 GB of room on the free plan, 100 GB on Kunbaa Plus and 500 GB on Kunbaa Ultra. The free plan keeps videos in the archive to short clips, and the paid plans keep longer videos. Photos and videos sent in chat are kept for a year on the free plan, and for as long as the family is on a paid plan.

Room for the family’s archive

The archive is everything the family keeps: photos and videos on the wall, in events and on the tree. Its room belongs to the family as a whole:

  • Free: 5 GB, enough to build the tree and start adding photos.
  • Kunbaa Plus: 100 GB, room for the whole family’s archive: the scanned albums, the wedding videos, the school photos.
  • Kunbaa Ultra: 500 GB, for a family with a big archive to keep.

It is one meter for the whole family, not one each. The usage page under Settings shows where your family stands, and Kunbaa tells you when the archive is getting full, well before it is.

When the archive is full

Nothing is lost and nothing already in the archive is removed. Uploads pause until someone frees some space, or the keeper moves to, or renews, a paid plan. Chat is deliberately outside that: a photo sent in the family chat always goes through, whatever the meter says.

Videos

On the free plan, videos added to the family archive are short clips. On Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra, longer videos go up: the whole speech, the whole dance. On an iPhone, videos you add to the wall are kept at up to 720p on the free plan and up to 1080p on Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra.

Photos

Very large photos are resized lightly, so they upload quickly on an ordinary connection and are kept at a size that prints well.

Photos and videos sent in chat

On the free plan, a photo or video sent in chat is kept for a year from the day it was sent, and then let go. The message stays, and a placeholder says the photo is no longer kept here. In its last month, anyone who runs the family can tap Keep this to save a copy to the family archive, where it stays for good.

On Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra, photos and videos sent in chat stay for as long as the family is on a paid plan, and anything kept under one never expires afterwards.

If a paid plan ends

Your family's archive is never deleted for non-payment. Everyone can still open the tree and see every photo and memory, and anything kept while the family was on Plus stays kept. What changes is what happens next: adding is limited to the free allowance, videos in the archive go back to short clips, and photos and videos sent in chat from then on follow the free plan's one-year window. You can request a complete copy at any time: see getting your data out of Kunbaa.

Prices, the trial and who a plan covers are on plans, storage and billing and the pricing page.

Questions families ask

How much room do we have?

Each family shares one archive, with 5 GB of room on the free plan, 100 GB on Kunbaa Plus and 500 GB on Kunbaa Ultra. The usage page under Settings has a live meter for the family's shared space and warns you well before the archive is full.

Is the room per person?

No. It is one meter for the whole family, not one each, so a relative adding photos fills the family's space rather than a private one of their own.

What happens when the archive is full?

Nothing is lost and nothing already in the archive is removed. You just can't add more until you free some space or the keeper moves to, or renews, a paid plan. A chat message is never blocked by it.

How long can a video be?

On the free plan, videos added to the family archive are short clips. On Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra, longer videos go up: the whole speech, the whole dance.

Are my photos compressed?

Lightly. Very large photos are resized so they upload quickly on an ordinary connection and are kept at a size that prints well. On an iPhone, videos you add to the wall are kept at up to 720p on the free plan and up to 1080p on Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra.

How long are photos and videos sent in chat kept?

On the free plan they are kept for a year from the day they were sent, and then let go. The message stays and a placeholder says the photo is no longer kept here. In its last month, anyone who runs the family can tap Keep this to save a copy to the family archive, where it stays for good. On Kunbaa Plus and Kunbaa Ultra they stay in the chat for as long as the family is on a paid plan, and anything kept under one never expires afterwards.

What happens to our photos if we stop paying?

Your family's archive is never deleted. Everything already in it stays readable to your whole family, and anything kept under Plus stays kept. What changes is what happens next: adding is limited to the free allowance, videos in the archive go back to short clips, and photos and videos sent in chat after that follow the free plan's one-year window. You can request a complete copy of your archive at any time by emailing support@kunbaa.com.
