How sharing works

What you put on Kunbaa goes to your family and nowhere else. Here is the short version, with links to the pages that give the detail.

Who sees what

Every post has an audience. There are four choices:

  • Everyone: the whole family space. This is the default.
  • Extended family: your household, grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins and grandchildren, with their partners.
  • Household: your parents, your partner and your children.
  • Only me: you, and nobody else.

Our servers apply the choice every time someone opens the wall, the feed, the library or a comment thread. The app does not just hide things. How the circles are worked out from your tree is on Choosing who sees a post.

What never leaves the family

  • Kunbaa is invite-only. There are no public profiles and no search.
  • Strangers, other families and search engines see nothing of your family space.
  • Kunbaa Plus and Ultra have no ads, and the free plan has none today.
  • Your family’s data is never sold.

Kunbaa is not end-to-end encrypted, and we say so plainly. A few services handle content so Kunbaa can run. How private is Kunbaa? names them and explains the encryption point in full.

What admins can and cannot see

An admin runs the family: they invite people, set each person’s permissions and manage the plan. Those are things an admin does. They are listed on Member permissions.

Being an admin does not get anyone past a post set to Only me. Only the person who posted it can see it.

When someone deletes their account

Deleting an account removes that person’s profile and sign-in. What they shared stays with the family: photos, videos and chat messages as they are, and posts and comments without the account’s name and photo. If someone wants specific posts gone too, they delete them first or email privacy@kunbaa.com.

A family’s only admin has to hand the family to another member before deleting. The full list of what is deleted and kept is on the account deletion page, and the steps are in How to delete your account.

Nothing you share trains any AI

We never use your content to train AI models, and our AI provider is not allowed to either. More on how Kunbaa AI handles family data.

Questions families ask

Who sees my post if I choose nothing?

Everyone in your family space. That is the default.

Can an admin read a post I set to Only me?

No. Only me means you and nobody else. An admin does not get past it.

Is Kunbaa end-to-end encrypted?

No, and we say so plainly. Everything is encrypted on its way between your device and our servers, but it is not end-to-end encrypted on our servers. The page How private is Kunbaa? explains why.

Does anything I share train an AI?

No. We never use your content to train AI models, and our AI provider is not allowed to either.

A person reads every message and replies as soon as they can.
