Keep everyone safe: location sharing and who can see you Coming soon

Step 1: Open Safety

Tap the Kunbaa tab at the bottom of the app, then Safety. You see the family map — empty until someone shares — and the Share my location button.

Step 2: Choose who can see you

Before you start, look at the Who can see me card. All family means everyone in your family space; Choose members lets you tick just the relatives you want — one person, a few, or everyone. Nobody outside your family can ever see you, and this is yours to change at any time.

Step 3: Choose how long

1. Tap Share my location. A sheet asks How long?
2. Pick 15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours for “I’m driving home” or “my flight just landed”. Each row says when it will stop by itself.
3. Or pick Until I turn it off, then While using the app — updates every few minutes while Kunbaa is open — or, on iPhone, Always, which keeps sharing when Kunbaa is closed, about once an hour and when you move a meaningful distance. Kunbaa first shows you exactly what Always collects; tap Turn on only if you want it, and your phone then asks for its own permission.
4. The first time, your phone asks to let Kunbaa use your location while using the app. Allow it. Your dot appears on the map for the people you chose.

A timed share keeps updating even if you switch apps or lock your phone: iPhone shows the blue location indicator in the status bar, Android shows a notification. It ends by itself at the time you picked, and your dot leaves the map at that moment even if your phone has died or lost signal.

Step 4: See what is happening, and stop

While you share, a status pill at the top of Safety reads Sharing · 42 min left or Sharing · While using. Tap it to open the sheet: Stop sharing, Change how long, or — on an until-I-turn-it-off share — Pause and Change. Stopping clears your stored position straight away. Signing out of Kunbaa ends the shares started on that phone too.

Step 5: Add a place, get an alert

Under Places, tap Add place to save home, school, care or work, using your current location as the centre. Under Place alerts, choose which relatives and which places you want to hear about — arrivals and departures, or arrivals only. You get a notification when someone who is sharing reaches or leaves that place: Ella got home.

What your family sees

Only the people you chose see your dot, and only while you share. Each person on the map decided for themselves. When a timed share ends, your position is hidden at once and deleted within about an hour. Sharing into a chat instead — a card only the people in that chat can open — is in the chats guide.
