Do we have to leave our WhatsApp group?
No — that's where the day's chatter lives. Kunbaa keeps and calls: the photos, plans and news worth finding again live in the family archive with the names and dates written down, and the call to your mother comes from her page on the family tree, not from a phone number anyone can dial.
Are calls really free?
Yes — for every family member on the free plan, unlimited, unmetered, no credit card needed. Voice or video: one-to-one calls are free; group calls are free for up to 4 people including you, and Kunbaa Plus raises that to 6. On some restrictive networks a call may not connect.
Can we make a group call?
Yes — voice or video. Group calls are free for up to 4 people including you, and Kunbaa Plus raises that to 6. Start one from a family group chat, or tap Add during a call; once the free seats are taken, the picker offers the 5th person with Kunbaa Plus. Six is what a phone carries well on home Wi-Fi, and with five or six on the call every camera steps down a notch to stay smooth.
Is Kunbaa chat end-to-end encrypted?
Invite-only, no ads, nobody's data sold, and nobody outside the family can see anything. We don't claim end-to-end encryption — the 'How private is Kunbaa?' guide in Help explains what private means here.
Can I chat from the website?
Not yet — chat and calls live in the Kunbaa mobile app, coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. The website is where you build the family tree, keep memories, photos and events, choose who sees each post, set member permissions, and import a GEDCOM file or a WhatsApp group today.
What does family chat cost?
Nothing — chat and calls are free for everyone in the family, unlimited and unmetered, and nobody else ever needs a credit card. A chat send is never blocked by a full archive. Kunbaa Plus at $15.99/mo or $159.99/yr on kunbaa.com changes one thing about chat: how long what you send is kept.
How long are photos and videos sent in chat kept?
On the free plan, a year from sending, then let go — a placeholder says so, and in the last month anyone who runs the family can tap Keep this to move one into the family archive for good. On Kunbaa Plus they are kept for as long as the family is on Plus, and anything kept under Plus is never deleted afterwards.

A chat app is built for talking, not for keeping.
A chat compresses the photo and, on WhatsApp, keeps it on the servers only for a limited period — so a two-year-old photo can fail to re-download.
Let the group carry the talking; the wedding photos, the baby news and the video of the speech belong in the family archive, with the names and the date beside them.

Worth knowing about chat apps and photos
