Plans, storage and billing

Kunbaa has one free plan and one paid plan, and a simple idea behind both: everyone in the family talks, calls, shares and is seen for free, and one person — the family's keeper — pays so that what the family shares is kept.

Free, for everyone in the family

Every family member joins free and stays free. Free includes the family tree with no cap on branches or generations, the family wall, group and one-to-one chat, voice and video calls (one-to-one, or a group of up to 4 free and up to 6 on Kunbaa Plus), eventswith reminders, Family Safety, and enough shared space to build the tree and start adding photos. Photos and videos sent in chat are kept for a year, and a chat message is never blocked by the archive being full. It is honestly a plan to begin on — enough to start, not enough to hold a real family's archive. That's what the paid plan is for.

Kunbaa Plus — $15.99 a month or $159.99 a year

One paid plan, two ways to pay for it. The yearly price is 17% less than paying month to month, and you can switch between them whenever you like. One person pays; everyone else stays free. It includes:

  • Longer videos in the family archive — the free plan keeps videos in the archive to short clips; on Plus the whole speech, the whole dance, goes up.
  • Room for the whole family's archive — the scanned albums, the wedding videos, the school photos, decades of it, in one space the whole family shares and fills.
  • Photos and videos shared in chat are kept for as long as the family is on Plus, rather than the free plan's one year — and anything kept under Plus is never deleted afterwards.
  • Everyone is covered by the one subscription. One person pays; every relative in the family gets all of the above, and nobody else is ever shown a price.

Talking is not what you are paying for. Chat, voice and video calls, the tree, events and Family Safety are the same on both plans, on purpose.

Full details are on the pricing page.

How much space is that?

Enough for a family archive, and we would rather show you than quote you a number that goes stale. Inside Kunbaa, the usage page under Settings carries a live meter for the family's shared space — one bar, shared across everyone, so a relative adding photos fills the family allowance rather than a private one of their own. It tells you when the archive is getting full, well before it is, and again if it fills.

If the archive does fill up, nothing is lost and nothing already in it is removed: uploads pause until someone frees some space, or the keeper moves to — or renews — the paid plan. Chat is deliberately outside that: a photo sent in the family chat always goes through, whatever the meter says.

How long photos and videos sent in chat are kept

This is the one thing in Kunbaa with a clock on it, so it is worth reading once. On the free plan, a photo or video sent in chat is kept on Kunbaa's servers for a year from the day it was sent, and then let go. The message stays; a placeholder takes the photo's place and says so. In its last month, anyone who runs the family can tap Keep this to move it into the family archive, where it stays for good — relatives who only look can ask the keeper to do it with one tap.

On Kunbaa Plus, photos and videos sent in chat are kept in the family archive for as long as the family is on Plus. Anything kept while the family was on Plus is never deleted afterwards, even if the plan lapses — it stays, readable, like the rest of the archive.

Two promises around it. Nothing that was already in your family's archive before this began can expire — only photos and videos sent in chat after Kunbaa turned the window on are ever affected. And if we ever change anything that shortens what is kept, you get at least 30 days' notice by email first, so you can keep what matters or leave.

The early-bird offer

Families who join while Kunbaa is new pay $79 for the first year on kunbaa.com, then renew at the normal $159.99a year. We discount that year because early families are taking a chance on something new — and because the discount is itself the commitment, an early-bird subscription starts straight away rather than with a trial. We don't discount renewals — Kunbaa needs to still exist when your grandchildren open it, and pricing it honestly is part of that.

How billing works

A subscription can be bought on kunbaa.com in a web browser. Bought here, Kunbaa Plus starts with a 30-day trial on either interval, then becomes a recurring charge to one card — monthly or yearly, whichever you picked — and you can see, switch or cancel it from your account on the website.

You keep the price you subscribed on. If we ever change what Kunbaa Plus costs, we will tell you at least 30 days before it affects you — by email to the address on your account, and on this page — so you can cancel before the new price applies. We do not raise a price in the middle of a period you have already paid for.

If you stop paying

Your family's archive is never deleted for non-payment. Everyone can still open the tree and see every photo and memory, and anything kept while the family was on Plus stays kept. What changes is what happens next: adding is limited to the free allowance, videos in the archive go back to short clips, and photos and videos sent in chat from then on follow the free plan's one-year window. And your archive is yours — you can request a complete copy at any time, and cancel whenever you like. See getting your data out of Kunbaa.

How does this compare?

Different products do different jobs, so compare carefully. As of mid-2026: Ancestry's plans run from $229 to $479 a year (the $479 All Access tier includes four member seats) — built for records and DNA research, a different job from keeping a living family's photos. FamilyAlbum's Premium Family plan is $59 a year, focused on a new baby's photo journal. Storyworth is $99 a year for one storyteller's written stories.Kunbaa Plus's $159.99 covers the whole family — the tree, the archive, and every relative in it covered by the one subscription.

Common questions

Does everyone in the family have to pay?

No. One person — the keeper — pays for Kunbaa Plus, and that one subscription covers every confirmed member of the family. Everyone else joins free and nobody else ever needs a credit card. Coverage is automatic: from the moment a relative joins, they get the family's room, the family's longer videos and the family's chat-media keeping, their usage page shows the same shared meter the keeper sees, and their plan card says who is covering them instead of offering them a price. There is nothing to claim, apply for, or ask support about.

Is there a monthly plan?

Yes. Kunbaa Plus is $15.99 a month or $159.99 a year, and you can pick either at checkout. The yearly price is 17% less, which is the one we'd pick — Kunbaa's job is keeping things for the long term. Monthly exists because committing a whole year to a young product is a real ask. You can switch between the two at any time from the billing portal.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — Kunbaa Plus starts with a 30-day trial when you subscribe on kunbaa.com, on either billing interval, so you can fill the archive before the first charge. The one exception is an early-bird offer, while one is running: its discounted first year is the commitment, so it starts straight away rather than with a trial.

How much can we store?

Enough for a family archive — the scanned albums, the wedding videos, the school photos, decades of it. Rather than publish a figure that would go stale, Kunbaa shows you where you actually stand: your usage page has a live meter for the family's shared space, one bar for the whole family, and it warns you well before the archive is full. If it does fill up, nothing is lost and nothing already in the archive is removed — you just can't add more until you free some space or the keeper renews. A chat message is never blocked by it either.

What happens if I stop paying?

Your family's archive is never deleted — everything already in it stays readable to your whole family, and anything kept under Plus stays kept. What changes is what happens next: adding is limited to the free allowance, videos in the archive go back to short clips, and photos and videos sent in chat after that follow the free plan's one-year window. You can request a complete copy of your archive at any time by emailing support@kunbaa.com.

Where do I pay?

On kunbaa.com in a web browser. The plan covers the whole family wherever they open Kunbaa: the website and the mobile app read the same subscription. You manage or cancel it from your account under Settings.

Will the price I pay go up?

Not without warning, and not mid-period. You keep the price you subscribed on. If we ever change what Kunbaa Plus costs, we tell you at least 30 days before it affects you — by email to the address on your account, and on this page — so you can cancel before the new price applies.

Is there a limit on how much we can store?

There is a fair-use ceiling on the family's shared archive, sized so an ordinary family archive — decades of photos and videos — fits comfortably inside it. We do not publish a figure because it is re-cut as storage costs change; the usage page under Settings always shows exactly where your family stands, and warns you well before the archive is full. It is one meter for the whole family, not one each.

How long are photos and videos sent in chat kept?

On the free plan they are kept for a year from the day they were sent, and then let go — the message stays and a placeholder says the photo is no longer kept here. In its last month, anyone who runs the family can tap Keep this to move it into the family archive, where it stays for good. On Kunbaa Plus they are kept in the family archive for as long as the family is on Plus, and anything kept under Plus is never deleted afterwards. Photos and videos sent in chat are separate from the archive meter on the free plan, so a chat message is never blocked by the archive being full.
