Getting your data out of Kunbaa

A family archive you can't take with you isn't kept — it's held. So here's the straight answer on where export stands in this release, and exactly how to get a copy of everything today.

The honest status

There is no self-serve export button in this release — not in the app, not on the website. We're not going to dress that up: for a product whose whole point is keeping your family's memories, a door out matters, and we intend to build one. Until it exists, the route below is how you get everything, and it is a real route, not a brush-off.

What about GEDCOM?

GEDCOM is the standard file format genealogy software uses to move a family tree between products. Kunbaa does not have GEDCOM export switched on at launch — ask us for your archive whenever you want a copy going that way. Coming in is different: a GEDCOM file from Ancestry, MyHeritage or a desktop program can be imported on kunbaa.com today, matched to the people already in your tree and confirmed before anything is written. See Importing a GEDCOM file.

How to get your archive today

Email support@kunbaa.com from the email address on your Kunbaa account and ask for your family archive. We will put together a complete copy of your family's content — photos, videos, voice notes and the tree — and send it to you. This isn't a grudging concession; it's your family's history, and you should be able to hold a copy of it whenever you want.

Your archive is never deleted for non-payment

If a paid plan lapses, your family's space goes still there, not gone. Everyone can still open the tree and see every photo and memory, anything kept while you were on Kunbaa Plus stays kept, and you can still request your archive by email. Stopping payment never deletes your family's history. Photos and videos sent in chat after that are the exception, and they follow the free plan's one-year window. Keep your own copies too

Whatever app your family uses — Kunbaa included — the safest archive is one with more than one home. Keep your originals, back them up, and spread copies across the family. There's a full guide in how to preserve family photos for generations.

Common questions

Is there a download-everything button?

Not at launch. There is no self-serve export in the app or on the website today. Email support@kunbaa.com and we'll put your complete archive together for you — photos, videos, voice notes and the tree.

Can I export our family tree as a GEDCOM file?

Not at launch — GEDCOM file export isn't switched on in this release. Your tree is still yours: ask support for your family archive and the tree data comes with it. Going the other way works today: a GEDCOM file from Ancestry, MyHeritage or a desktop program can be imported on kunbaa.com — see Importing a GEDCOM file.

What happens to our photos if we stop paying?

Your family's archive is never deleted for non-payment. Everything in it stays readable to your family, and anything kept while you were on Kunbaa Plus stays kept — adding new memories is limited to the free allowance until you renew, and you can still request your complete archive by email. The one thing with a clock on it is photos and videos sent in chat, which the free plan keeps for a year from sending.

How do I request a copy of everything?

Email support@kunbaa.com from the email address on your Kunbaa account and ask for your family archive. We'll prepare a complete copy — photos, videos, voice notes and the tree — and send it to you.
